Damascene Mosaic

The art of Damascene mosaic is one of the oldest crafts. It was initiated more than 700 years ago by a Syrian craftsman, George Al-Bitar, in Damascus, Syria.
It is the art of gathering and superimposing geometric shapes in colored wood, then inlaying them with mother-of-pearl and pure silver, which gives each piece a unique aesthetic and splendor.
Damascene mosaic has become a Syrian ambassador in many countries around the world. For example, the Élysée Palace in France and the National Palace of Mexico were decorated with Damascene mosaic furniture.
